The Bundesliga clash between FC Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening. The match was played at the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg. Augsburg started brightly but it took them until the 25th minute to break the deadlock. They were awarded a penalty after Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper, Roman Bürki, handled the ball outside the area. However, the spot-kick failed to find its target as Marc Römer could only manage to hit the post. Dortmund responded with a goal of their own in the 66th minute through Christian Pulisic. He received a pass from Jadon Sancho and slotted home from close range to equalize for the visitors. Despite being behind, Augsburg continued to press forward and created several chances. They finally broke the deadlock in stoppage time when Vagner Love headed home a cross from Stefan Savić to secure a point for the hosts. The draw means that both teams remain in second and third place respectively in the table. Augsburg will be hoping to build on this result as they look to climb further up the table while Dortmund will be content with getting a point away from home. Overall, it was a closely contested game which saw both sides create plenty of chances but ultimately leave the ball in the net. It was a disappointing end to what had been a strong performance by Augsburg, who will now need to regroup before facing Hoffenheim next weekend. |
